Google acquired Picasa back in 2004 for an undisclosed price, in an attempt to compete for user attention with other hot web properties at the time, such as - wait for it - Yahoo and Microsoft's MSN website.

Friday, February 12, 201610:00 AM Update March 26, 2018: The Picasa Desktop application will no longer work online, which means that you will not be able to upload or download photos and videos, create online albums, or delete online photos, videos and albums. Google, of course, is suggesting its own Google Photos app as an alternative to Picasa, and says that if people have a Picasa account, 'the easiest way to still access, modify and share most of that content is to log into Google Photos, and all of your photos and videos will already be there.' But for people who don't want to use Google Photos, Picasa albums will still exist on the web and are accessible for download or deletion. Home for all your photos and videos, automatically organized and easy to share. The playback performance of the YouTube Leanback and Picasa feature is dependent on your home network. Starting in March, the company will shutter the Picasa desktop app, and in May, Picasa web albums will no longer be editable. Poor playback of YouTube Leanback & Picasa videos.

Start out with a dozen or so pictures to get the feel for it. The more photos you choose, the longer it will take Picasa to make the movie and the larger the movie file will be.
